Personal History
Jean-Luc was born in Labare, France in 2305 to Maurice and Yvette Gessard Picard. Jean-Luc was the youngest of two boys and he was the dreamer. It was always his dream to be a starship Captain. At the age of seventeen Jean-Luc applied for starfleet academy and was denied entry. The following year he gained admittance to the Academy as a freshman. As a freshman he became the first freshman to ever win the academy marathon at Danula II. He also won top academic honors as well. After graduating starfleet academy in 2327 Picard was on leave at Starbase Earhart where he picked a fight with three Nausicans. One of the nausicans stabbed him in the heart and he got immediate surgery at a nearby medical facility recieving an artificial heart.
As a young Lieutenant Picard met Sarek at the weeding of one of his sons. Young Jean-Luc was in awe of meeting a figurehead of the Federation. He also had a romantic fling with Janice Manheim as a young officer in 2342 which he broke off by standing her up. He always regretted that decision. One of the standout moments of his early career was on Milika III when he saved an endangered Ambassador.
In 2333 while serving as Second Officer aboard the Stargazer Lieutenant Commander Jean-Luc Picard was thrust into command when Captain Ruhalter was killed and Commander Leach was injured during a mission at the legendary galactic barrier. After successfully resolving the situation and impressing Admiral Mehdi Picard was given command of the Stargazer at 28 years of age, breaking Jim Kirk's record for youngest Captain. While earning the praise of Admiral Medhi Captain Picard made an enemy, Admiral Arlen McAteer who felt that Jean-Luc was promoted to Captain too quickly. He made it a point to challenge the young Captain to cause him to lose face with starfleet command. He was unsuccessful in his ventures. During his first year of command he met the woman who later tend bar on the Enterprise (NCC 1701-D) Guinan during a mission.
In 2344 Jean-Luc was introduced to then Beverly Howard who was dating his best Jack Crusher. Despite that relationship Jean-Luc fell in love with Beverly but did not ruin his friend's relationship and her happiness. Jack was eventually assigned under Captain Picard's command on the Stargazer and was killed in 2354. Even after Jack's death Jean-Luc never made a move at Beverly Crusher.
2355 was a trying year for Captain Picard. His ship was believed destroyed at the Battle of Maxia Beta. He was even placed on trial for the ship's destruction. Fortunelty Captain Picard was able to save most of his crew by coming up with the "Picard manuever" which took advantage of the fact that the enemy vessel was using light speed sensors. That allowed the Stargazer to appear in two places at once so they could fire on and destroy the unknown enemy vessel. The prosecutor in the case was Phillipa Louvois whom Picard had been romantically involved with in the past. He was exonerated of all charges.
After his exonoration Jean-Luc took a leave of absense from starfleet to pursue his other dream of archaeology. While teaching on Alpha Cuntauri B in 2359 Picard recieved a tip from his old friend Guinan. That lead led him to a young woman with no memory of who or what she was. Picard was taken to the young lady and named her Ariel and even began having an affair with the woman. About a year later she began regaining some of her memories and knew that there were more of her people out there that needed to be rescued like she was. Asking again for starfleet's help Admiral told Picard he would get that help only if he rejoined starfleet and took command of a ship. Agreeing to the terms Picard temporarily took command of the USS Portia putting together some of the greatest scientific minds in starfleet including an android Lieutenant named Data. The mission to rescue her people did not go as planned. She tried to destroy the entire Glaxy class line of ships with a virus to curtail starfleet's desire to explore. With the assistance of Lieutenant Data the Galaxy class was saved but Arial escaped.
On stardate 41124 Captain Picard was given command of the USS Enterprise (NCC 1701-D). The ship was launched shortly after he reported in and the mission was underway
