Personal History
Rothchild was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on February 2, 2337 to marine biologist Rebecca Sandiford and Lt. Michael Rothchild. He is the oldest of three children. All three children entered Starfleet.
Rothchild always intended on entering Starfleet, but after completing his second year, he dropped out to “travel the galaxy”. He was allowed to re-enter a year later. When he graduated, he was assigned to the USS Obama. The Obama was lost during the first year Rothchild was aboard. He received a commendation for saving several lives in the event and was also promoted to Lieutenant junior grade.
Next, Rothchild spent nearly two years aboard the USS Childress. Rothchild served as helm and ops officer aboard the small vessel. He then spent 7 years aboard the Potemkin and achieved the rank of Lt. Commander and the position of second officer. He then ended up on the Tanzania as second officer and was later promoted to first officer after Tergesen’s first choice for the position turned it down. In 2372 after Captain Tergersen was killed in the Battle at Chin'toka Derek was made Captain of the Tanzania.
